A design update for the U.S. 522 Bypass around Berkeley Springs will be unveiled on Thursday, February 28th. The public is invited to attend from 4:00 to 7:00 PM at the Berkeley Springs High School Cafeteria.
What to expect
The new design is available to review at the meeting but there will be no formal presentation. This is similar to the format of the Bypass event held last April. West Virginia State Department of Highways engineers will be at the meeting to answer questions on the new design.
Another public comment period for the updated design will open after this meeting. Residents will be able to submit written or online comments.
Problems with the older plan
Over 350 residents commented on the first design plan. The proposed intersections at the north and south ends of the existing Route 522 which runs through downtown Berkeley Springs drew the most concern. Because these proposed intersections would have forced travelers onto the bypass without an opportunity to exit back onto Route 522, getting to town could be difficult.
